On May 23-24, the State School of Higher Professional Education in Suwalki hosted a conference “Suwalki Gap as the key to Poland’s security”. The participants included representatives of universities, military associations and military industry from all over Poland. The discussion focused on the capabilities of the Polish defence industry, regional defence and potential threats in a modern-day perspective. The principal aim of the conference was to specify the theoretical and practical defence patterns on the example of the Suwalki gap. Two-day debates concentrated on three main points:

  • Security threats to the Suwalki Gap in the view of NATO’s and EU’s policy
  • Forecasting of the direction in Polish defence policy development
  • Establishing security in the region

Apart from participation in the debates, the guests were invited to visit the border tripoint in Wisztyniec. A report containing all the speeches from the conference is scheduled to be published this fall. Warsaw Institute for Strategic Initiatives took honorary patronage of the event.
